Gelenbe, Erol; Pujolle, Guy Introduction aux réseaux de files d’attente. (English) Zbl 0547.60092 Collection Technique et Scientifique des Télécommunications. Paris: Editions Eyrolles. XV, 192 p. (1982). This book provides an elementary introduction to recent research on queueing networks. It is written at a level which would be accessible to students with a basic knowledge of Markov chains and it contains the necessary background material on single-server queues. It includes chapters on Jackson networks and extensions of single-server Markov queues to cover such things as priority queues, group arrivals and departures and diffusion approximations. Other chapters deal with (i) BCMP (Baskett, Chandy, Müntz and Palacios) networks, (ii) approximation methods and (iii) flows in networks, covering topics such as reversibility and quasi-reversibility. The text is liberally sprinkled with examples and the style is suitable for both students of applied mathematics and of engineering.
