Graphs, groups and surfaces. Completely rev. and enlarged ed. (English) Zbl 0551.05037
North-Holland Mathematics Studies, 8. Amsterdam - New York - Oxford: North-Holland. XIII, 314 p. S 30.00; Dfl. 95.00 (1984).
[For the review of the first edition (1973) see Zbl 0268.05102.]
This book gives a good presentation of the interesting interactions between graphs, groups and surfaces. The field of topological graph theory has greatly expanded in the 10 years since the first edition of this book appeared such that a new enlarged edition becomes convenient. The nine chapters of the first edition have been revised and updated and six new chapters have been added. The new chapters are: 10. Voltage graphs, 11. Non-orientable graph imbeddings, parallel to the results in the orientable cases, 12. Block designs associated with graph imbeddings, 13. Hypergraph imbeddings, generalizing graph imbeddings, 14. Map automorphism groups, groups (primarily) acting on graphs of groups on surfaces, 15. Change ringing.
