Shanthikumar, J. G. Comparison of dispatch policies for a single server queueing model with limited operational control. (English) Zbl 0551.90023 Int. J. Prod. Res. 22, 389-403 (1984). The author considers a single server queueing model for a single machine dynamic job shop in which shop level scheduling is not permitted. For the class of single machine dynamic job shops it is assumed that external arrivals of jobs are received in a dispatch area from which their release to the shop may be controlled. The following four dispatch policies considered are (i) FIFO; (ii) scheduling within generations; (iii) scheduling within periodic review; (iv) scheduling within fixed batch sizes.
