The main change in this second edition with respect to the first (1973; Zbl 0297.90044) is the addition of two new chapters numbered 5 and 14. Chapter 5 covers the classical material on transportation and assignment problems, network flow theory and related topics. Chapter 14 describes Lagrange methods with emphasis on quadratic programming and variants of Newton methods.
