Free boundary problems: Applications and theory. Volumes III, IV. (Proceedings of the International Colloquium: ‘Problèmes à Frontières Libres. Applications et Théorie’, held in Maubuisson, France, June 7–16, 1984). (English) Zbl 0578.35003

These volumes contain the proceedings of the International Colloquium: ”Problèmes à Frontière libres. Applications et Théorie”, held in Manbuisson (France) from 7 to 16 June 1984. The occurrence of ’free boundaries’ or ’moving boundaries’, i.e. frontiers between spatial zones with different physical characteristics where location is not prescribed in advance - is a frequently encountered nature of the evolution of systems in engineering or physics. The versatility of this subject explains its central role in the widely scattered field of applied mathematical modelling. The contributed papers are focused in 8 topical chapters: Stefan problems, Generalized Stefan problems, Porous media, Solid mechanics, Fluid mechanics, Reaction diffusion, Control, Mathematical and numerical methods.
