These volumes contain the proceedings of the International Colloquium: ”Problèmes à Frontière libres. Applications et Théorie”, held in Manbuisson (France) from 7 to 16 June 1984. The occurrence of ’free boundaries’ or ’moving boundaries’, i.e. frontiers between spatial zones with different physical characteristics where location is not prescribed in advance - is a frequently encountered nature of the evolution of systems in engineering or physics. The versatility of this subject explains its central role in the widely scattered field of applied mathematical modelling.
