Destabilizing effect of unilaternal conditions in reaction-diffusion systems. (English) Zbl 0597.35006

Stationary solutions of reaction-diffusion systems with unilateral constraints are considered. Some examples are given, for which the spatially homogeneous stationary solution of the system with unilateral constraints can be unstable even for diffusion coefficients for which it is stable as a solution of the classical problem with Neumann conditions. Some general considerations on this subject are presented.
