\(\eta\)-invariants, the adiabatic approximation and conical singularities. (English) Zbl 0623.58021

The author discusses a formula derived by Witten for the \(\eta\)-invariant of a mapping torus, by heat equation methods. The relation between these results and previous work of the author on analysis on spaces with conical singularities is also discussed.
