Some remarks on the strong limit-point condition of second-order linear differential expressions. (English) Zbl 0625.34016

Limit point, strong limit point, Dirichlet, all these expressions refer to classification of second order linear differential equations. This classification is at least historically related to the question of existence of selfadjoint extensions for the associated Sturm-Liouville problems. The paper under review states two independent sets of conditions to ensure both Dirichlet and strong limit point properties. One of the conditions is shown to be the best possible, in some way. The strongest relation with previous work seems to be with H. Kalf’s publication in Math. Ann. 210, 197-205 (1974; Zbl 0297.34019).
