(English) Zbl 0631.73090 International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Amsterdam etc.: North-Holland. XVI, 434 p.; $ 89.00; Dfl. 200.00 (1987). [The articles of this volume will not be indexed individually.] This book is published as the proceedings of the IUTAM Symposium held in Tokyo (1986) and it consists of eight chapters and 434 pages. The Chapter A is related to electromagnetic buckling and stability, and it contains six papers. The deformation and vibrations due to an electromagnetic force are investigated in Chapter B which contains eleven papers on the subject matter. Electromagnetic fracture and stress analysis of magnets are reported within five papers of Chapter C. In Chapter D, the papers of eleven contributors and their co-authors related to eddy current analysis and some of its applications had been reported. In Chapter E, which has only three papers, the numerical analysis of some problems concerning the magnetic field analysis is given. The Chapter F, which contains fiver papers, is concerned with the interactions of electromagnetic and mechanical fields in a deformable material continua. The subject of electromagnetic waves in various media, in which the electromagnetic and mechanical fields are interacting, are discussed by eleven papers in Chapter G. Finally, in the last chapter, Chapter H, the constitutive relations of electromagnetic material are investigated through ten papers by various authors. The papers contained in the book are well written. The book is very rich in the sense of covering the various areas of electromagnetic interactions. I believe, this book is avaluable contribution to the scientific community and it will be very useful for those researchers working in the area of deformable or rigid bodies with electromagnetic interactions.
