Reid, Miles Young person’s guide to canonical singularities. (English) Zbl 0634.14003 Algebraic geometry, Proc. Summer Res. Inst., Brunswick/Maine 1985, part 1, Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 46, 345-414 (1987). [For the entire collection see Zbl 0626.00011.] New exposition of the author’s recent works on singularities of algebraic varieties and principally on three-fold singularities, being also an introduction to the author’s work and of that of Morrison, Stevens, Mori, etc. The author gives a presentation of canonical singularities, terminal singularities, relations and computation of some invariants in terms of the Newton polyhedron. This paper can also be seen as a review of recent works, but unfortunately it is not very complete, even in the subjects studied.
