Méthodes et modèles en statistique non-paramétrique. Exposé fondamental. (Methods and models in nonparametric statistics. Fundamental exposition). (French) Zbl 0637.62034
Paris: Dunod; Québec (Canada): Presses de l’Université Laval. xvi, 358 p. FF 180 (1988).
This textbook would be suitable for students at the level of junior or senior mathematics or statistics majors at American colleges.
After an introductory chapter, there is a chapter on order statistics; a chapter on applications of order statistics; a chapter on two-sample problems (testing identity of distributions, estimating shift between two distributions, etc.); a chapter on one-sample problems (testing and estimating location parameters, etc.); a chapter on the comparison of k treatments; a chapter on tests of independence and measures of association; a chapter on tests of fit; and an appendix summarizing basic notions of probability and statistics.
The coverage is quite thorough. All of the standard procedures are discussed, as well as many newer and less familiar procedures. Exercises are contained in this volume, and there will be a companion volume, by the present authors and Alain Baille, containing exercises with solutions.
