Shanthikumar, J. George; Yao, David D. On server allocation in multiple center manufacturing systems. (English) Zbl 0645.90034 Oper. Res. 36, No. 2, 333-342 (1988). The problem of allocating a given number of identical servers among the work centers of a manufacturing system is studied. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear integer program of allocating servers in a closed queueing network to maximize throughput. Closed means that the number of parts circulated within the system is maintained constant. A search algorithm is developed to obtain an optimal allocation of servers.
