This paper provides a summary of the earlier papers by the author: “The classifying topos of a continuous groupoid. I-II [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. (to appear)] and “Morita equivalence of continuous groups” [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. (to appear)]. The aim of this paper is to explain to what extent the category of Grothendieck toposes can be described in terms of groupoids.
