Large time behavior of solutions of hyperbolic balance laws. (English) Zbl 0661.35059
This interesting semi-review paper shows how the method of generalized characteristics can be employed to determine information about the asymptotic behaviour of nonhomogeneous balance laws. The approach is to compare and constrast the large time behaviour of a number of carefully chosen examples of homogeneous conservation laws and nonhomogeneous balance laws in which varying assumptions have been made about the divergence term and the nonhomogeneous term.
