DM 84.00 (1988). In J. R. Stat. Soc., Ser. B 46, 440-464 (1984; Zbl 0571.62017), the authors discussed tests of fit based on a class of statistics called power-divergence statistics. The present monograph is devoted to the same subject. The statistics are applied to testing the fit of observed discrete data to various models, the large and small sample properties of the tests are discussed, the tests are compared to a variety of other tests which have been suggested, and the application of the tests to continuous data which have been discretized by grouping is discussed. There is an appendix containing proofs of the results described.
