Griffin’s Statistical Monographs and Courses, 41. London: Charles Griffin & Company Ltd.; New York: Oxford University Press. 188 p. £21.50 (1988).
In this monograph, the author gives a unified treatment of the method of paired comparisons. Questions regarding the design and analysis, the choice of appropriate probability models and applications have been handled adequately. The text is easily readable. The level of mathematics is ordinary. The author has emphasized simple nonparametric procedures and the analogy between paired comparisons and tournaments.
The material of the monograph is covered in seven chapters. The first three chapters deal with probability models, combinatorial methods and nonparametric tests of significance. The next three chapters deal with the linear model, designs, and ranking and selection. The last chapter covers miscellaneous topics. Adequate references are given.
