Possible demographic consequences of HIV/AIDS epidemics. I. Assuming HIV infection always leads to AIDS. (English) Zbl 0673.92008

Several models for HIV/AIDS transmission are studied. Special interest is given to heterosexual transmission of HIV/AIDS, starting with a basic model in which male-female and female-male transmission rates are assumed equal. The model is then refined, considering asymmetries in the rates and a non-homogeneous population. A model with age-structured population is then considered, that allows the study of the effects of HIV/AIDS in several age groups, in particular children. This study is done with groups of different social and economic indicators.
