Some techniques and results from algebraic geometry are examined for their usefulness in computer-aided geometric design.
The author shows how to look at the question of faithfulness, efficiency and numerical stability of an algebraic method by focusing on offsetting and blending curves and surfaces. Some numerical techniques for interrogating and analyzing complex offsets and blends are examined as well as numerical approaches to tracing surface intersection and to locally approximating surfaces.
