This paper introduces a non-parametric method for determining the weighting function of a linear system, from measurements of systems output and input signals. More specifically, the problem is to solve, with respect to h(t), the following integral Volterra equation of the first kind, $y(t)=\int^{t}_{0}h(t-s)u(s)ds,$ where t denotes time, and y(t) and u(t) are the output and input, respectively. It is shown in the paper that h(t), for t in a given interval, can be determined from the system’s responses to two special sinusoidal inputs. Possible measurement errors are included in the analysis of the performance of the proposed method.
