Probabilistic reliability: an engineering approach. 2nd ed. (English) Zbl 0725.62089

Malabar, FL: Krieger Publishing Co., Inc.. xix, 702 p. $ 64.50 (1990).
The first edition of this book appeared in 1968. Most parts of this second edition are identical to those of the first edition, but some errors, both mathematical and typographical, have been expunged. In the appendix - now 180 pages - the sections E-K are added, containing the topics “additional reliability modeling techniques”, “availability modeling”, “software reliability”, “fault tolerance computing”, “analysis using computer programs”, “safety and risk analysis” and “sources of failure rate data”. Also a supplementary bibliography is given.
Because of the similarity to the first edition, we refer to the following three reviews: M.W.R., Reliab. Abstracts Tech. Rev. 9, 1-3 (1969); K. Grace, Technometrics 11, 206 (1969); and P. Albrecht and W. Nelson, Quality Tech. 3, 190-192 (1971). The third review gives the best description of the contents of the first edition of this book.
Final comment: Chapter 2 (mathematical background) is not recommendable, but on the whole the book has much to offer to those who are interested in the use of probabilistic reliability in engineering practice.
