Testing exponentiality against IDMRL distributions with unknown change point. (English) Zbl 0745.62042

Summary: F. Guess, M. Hollander and F. Proschan [ibid. 14, 1388-1398 (1986; Zbl 0613.62122)] proposed tests for exponentiality versus IDMRL ( increasing initially and then decreasing mean residual life) distributions when the changepoint, or corresponding quantile, is known. We propose two tests which do not require such knowledge of the changepoint. The tests are based on estimates of functionals of the cdf which discriminate between the exponential and IDMRL families.
