Rouy, Elisabeth; Tourin, Agnès A viscosity solutions approach to shape-from-shading. (English) Zbl 0754.65069 SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 29, No. 3, 867-884 (1992). A new method that consists in solving directly the image irradiance equation is proposed. The study is restricted to continuous shapes. The viscosity solutions are used, starting with the theory developed by M. G. Crandall and P. L. Lions [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 277, 1-42 (1983; Zbl 0599.35024)]. Numerical results are included.
