LAPACK represents a transportable library of FORTRAN 77 routines devoted to the usual linear algebra problems. It was designed as a successor of the popular packages LINPACK and EISPACK, integrating these two packages into a unified one and adding some new algorithms or restructuring some of the old versions. At the same time LAPACK aims to increase the software efficiency by using recent facilities such as: vector processors, high-performance “superscalar” workstations, shared memory multiprocessors.
The book is organized in seven chapters : l. Essentials; 2. Contents of LAPACK; 3. Perfomance of LAPACK; 4. Accuracy and stability, 5. Documentation and software conventions; 6. Installing LAPACK routines; 7. Troubleshooting, and five annexes: A. Index of driver and computational routines; B. Index of auxiliary routines; C. Quick reference guide to the BLAS; D. Converting from LINPACK or EISPACK; E. LAPACK working notes.
A separate section (102 pages) gives complete specifications for calling LAPACK routines.
