Coupled fields in a piezoelectric body. (English) Zbl 0768.73059
The paper gives a description of coupled fields in a piezoelectric based on a general method of conjugation of mechanical and electromagnetic fields in a deformable body developed earlier by the author. The essential new assumptions of the presented method are a generalized formula for the Lorentz force (which may be non-zero in the absence of free currents and electric charges in the body) and the omission of the symmetry condition for the deformation and stress tensors, the condition that may be violated in the case of mutual action of an electromagnetic field and a material deformable continuum. The general linear field equations of isotropic piezoelectricity containing nonsymmetric stress and strain tensors and the polarization vector are derived. Treatment of a specific initial-boundary value problem is promised in an effect to explain certain experimentally observed “anomalies” that could not be explained by conventional theories.
