Digital image processing algorithms. (English) Zbl 0782.68118
Prentice Hall International Series in Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing. New York: Prentice Hall. xi, 362 p. (1993).
The book deals with image transforms, filtering, compression, edge detection, segmentation and shape description algorithms. The author has written algorithms in $$C$$ language. It is intended for readers who have some prior knowledge in digital signal processing. There are seven chapters followed by references at the end of each chapter.
Chapter 1 covers the fundamentals of digital image processing. Chapter 2 treats two-dimensional FFT, discrete cosine transforms and power spectral estimation. Digital image filtering is described in Chapter 3, including Wiener filtering, median filtering, and histogram equalization. Huffman coding, run length coding, LZW coding, and predictive coding compression algorithms are given in Chapter 4. Various edge detection schemes are presented in Chapter 5. Image segmentation algorithms including Hough transforms are treated in Chapter 6. The last chapter is devoted to shape description methods; chain codes, Fourier descriptors, quad trees, pyramids, moment descriptors, thinning algorithms, mathematical morphology, and skeletons.
The book is a valuable, timely, and practical addition to the current image processing technology.
