Summary: It is revealed in particular that a characterization result that is much stronger than that given recently by T. C. Liang and B. N. Balakrishnan [J. R. Stat. Soc., Ser. B 54, No. 1, 269-271 (1992)] follows as a simple corollary of a known published result of K. S. Lau and C. R. Rao [Sankyā, Ser. A 44, 72-90 (1982; Zbl 0584.62019)].
