Application of topological methods to estimate the number of longitudinal elastic waves in crystals. (English. Russian original) Zbl 0812.58021

Theor. Math. Phys. 94, No. 1, 104-108 (1993); translation from Teor. Mat. Fiz. 94, No. 1, 146-152 (1993).
The authors use the theory of topological invariants to estimate the number of longitudinal normals of elastic waves in crystals. The Lyusternik-Shnirel’man category and the Morse theory are also used.
