Variational inequalities and quasi-variational inequalities are being used to study a wide class of problems arising in pure and applied sciences in a unified framework. In this informative and interesting paper, the author has given main achievements in developing the gap (merit) functions for variational inequalities and quasi-variational inequalities, which are used to suggest and analyze iterative algorithms. A comparison between the projection method and the direct method for solving traffic assignment problems is carried out. Sensitivity analysis is also discussed.
