Summary: A retrial system consists of a primary service facility and an orbit. Customers can arrive at the service facility either from outside the system or from the orbit. If an arriving customer is blocked from entering the service facility, he/she may join the orbit and conduct a retrial later. Otherwise, he/she enters the service facility and gets served. This paper collects together existing material regarding seven main aspects of retrial queueing systems: (i) stability, (ii) queue lengths, (iii) waiting times and number of retrials, (iv) asymptotic analysis, (v) busy periods and server idle times, (vi) monotonicity, and (vii) control. In each of these topics, we present the existing results and then discuss open problems.
