An existence theorem for a problem in oil recovery. (English) Zbl 0886.76091

Summary: An existence theorem is given for a stability problem arising from the secondary oil recovery using the displacement by a polymer solute. The problem is reduced to a Sturm-Liouville system with eigenvalue appearing in the boundary conditions. We obtain, in the first approximation, a growth constant which agrees with formulas known from the literature.
