Error analysis for the numerical evaluation of the diagonal forms of the scalar spherical addition theorem. (English) Zbl 0924.65116
Wave scattering from large objects or from a cluster of scatterers is considered and methods are proposed to calculate errors by the fast multipole method and multilevel fast multipole algorithm in solving the scattering problem. The total error involves the truncation error and the discretization error (due to numerical integration). An error due to interpolation is also introduced. The total error introduced in a multilevel implementation is studied numerically.
