CRC Press Series on Discrete Mathematics and its Applications. Boca Raton, FL: CRC Press. 198 p. (1997).
The book describes a number of important techniques to construct combinatorial designs. It covers basic designs such as Steiner and Kirkman triple systems, mutually orthogonal Latin squares, finite projective and affine planes, and Steiner quadruple systems. A number of good illustrations help the reader to understand the constructions and to become able to apply the main techniques. The book contains many exercises – which is good – but it only gives answers to a few selected exercises. The book is technically very-well written. The content is presented in a crystal-clear, if not somewhat dry, manner. Some informal motivations, and some links to applications would have been very helpful, especially for the student reader.
