Permutation groups. I. (Survey for the years 1981–1995). (Russian) Zbl 0930.20001
Tr. Diskretn. Mat. 2, 237-281 (1998).
Permutation groups form the oldest part of group theory. The classification of finite simple groups, announced in 1979, stimulated the further intensive development of permutation groups. In this first part of his survey, the author considers results on finite permutation groups published in the years 1981–1995. The following main themes are discussed here: O’Nan-Scott theorem, maximal subgroups in finite almost simple groups, general properties of primitive permutation groups, uniprimitive groups, multiply transitive groups, actions of a group on $$k$$-orbits, solvable and nilpotent permutation groups, operations with permutation groups.
