Summary: A high gain observer based on a triangular structure of nonlinear systems is proposed. An algorithm capable of calculating a gain of the observer is given. This observer synthesis is then extended to a class of multi-output nonlinear systems which contains the model of binary distillation columns. Finally, we illustrate the performance of the estimator using numerical simulations of a methanol-ethanol distillation column.
