From the projective group to the registration group: A new model. (Du groupe projectif au groupe des recalages, une nouvelle modélisation.) (French. Abridged English version) Zbl 1008.68150
Summary: For a lot of applications in image analysis, we have to know if a planar image $$g$$ may be considered as a view, under another view point, of a planar image $$f$$. In such a case, there exists a projective transformation $$\varphi$$ such that $g(x, y)= (\varphi f)(x,y)= f(\varphi(x, y)).$ Therefore, the projective group was naturally used for modeling the matching problem with a well-known efficiency.
We present here a new model. The new group, called the registration group, is a group with six parameters (instead of eight for the projective group) and is consistent with the displacement of a pinhole camera.
Moreover, this approach allows a simple algorithm for the matches.
