Topics in number theory. Vol. I and II, with separate errata list for this edition by the author. Reprint of the 1956 original. (English) Zbl 1009.11001
Mineola, NY: Dover Publications. xii, 202; vi, 273 p. $ 24.95 (2002).
It is definitely a fine decision to republish the two volumes of Leveque’s `Topics in number theory’ jointly in one, as Vol. I still represents a well-structured self-contained treatment for a first course for advanced undergraduates, and Vol. II highlights some more advanced topics. The presentation is clear and thorough. Especially Vol. II presents interesting topics such as Thue-Siegel-Roth theorem, irrationality and transcendence, Dirichlet’s theorem, and the prime number theorem. Numerous problems are posed with hints for their solution. A list of misprints has been added. The originals (1956) have been reviewed by K. Mahler in Zbl 0070.03803, Zbl 0070.03804.
