Atiyah, Michael Mathematics in the 20th century. (English) Zbl 1022.01007 Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 34, No. 1, 1-15 (2002). The paper under review is based on a lecture given by the author at the Fields Institute in Toronto in June 2000. It is a survey of several key themes that have characterised mathematics in the 20th century. The impact of physics is also discussed. At the end some speculations about possible developments in the 21st century are made.
