The relativistic center of momentum. (English) Zbl 1024.83002
Mladenov, Ivaïlo M. (ed.) et al., Proceedings of the 4th international conference on geometry, integrability and quantization, Sts. Constantine and Elena, Bulgaria, June 6-15, 2002. Sofia: Coral Press Scientific Publishing. 316-325 (2003).
Summary: Since M. H. L. Preyce’s study of the relativistic center of momentum [Proc. R. Soc. Lond., Ser. A 195, 62-81 (1948; Zbl 0032.23605)] it is believed that the classical notion of the center of mass can be extended to special relativity theory only in “at least one Lorentz frame” (in Goldstein’s words). The aim of this work is, accordingly, to study the relativistic center of mass in a way fully analogous to its Newtonian counterpart.
