A survey of security mechanisms in mobile communication systems. (English) Zbl 1050.94533
This is a comprehensive overview of GSM and UMTS security mechanisms addressed to all who want to be quickly informed about the state of the art in the topics. The reader finds a description of the GSM network and its three basic security mechanisms: anonymity, authentication and confidentiality. The author also presents a list of known attacks on the A5 stream cipher. Then he describes the UMTS security mechanisms including a brief description of KASUMI cipher analysis. Finally, there is a brief description of other mobile communications systems.
