Part 2 contains addresses given at conferences at various places. Part 3 contains memorials and reminiscences of contemporary mathematicians and reviews of their work.” More specifically, Part 1 is a selection of 21 papers on probability from the years 1940–2002. Part 2 consists of 7 addresses, mostly on Markov chains. Part 3 contains memorials and reminiscences on Hsu, Paul Lévy, Pólya, Doeblin, Doob, and Fréchet, three reviews of books by Doob, Rényi, and Feller, and an interesting article on “this strange and fascinating human capacity called mathematics”. The book is completed by a collection of 13 photographs.
