Degree computations for positively homogeneous differential equations. (English) Zbl 1059.34002

The authors provide a method for the computation of the topological degree associated to some second-order ODEs with asymptotically positively homogeneous nonlinearities. Surprisingly enough, this degree can sometimes assume any negative value. The existence of periodic solutions can then be directly deduced.
