Variational principles in micromorphic thermoelasticity. (English) Zbl 1090.74563
Summary: Micromorphic thermoelasticity have been studied extensively, but few in a variational statement. The paper establishes a Gurtin-type variational theory for linear dynamic theory of micromorphic thermoelasticity. The use of convolutions is of course restricted to the linear case, which sets a limit to the rang of applicability. A tranditional variational principle without convolutions can be obtained for the proplems discussed by the semi-inverse method [see for example,J. H. He, Coupled variational principles of piezoelectricity, Int. J. Eng. Sci. 39, No. 3, 323–341 (2000); . Hamilton principle and generalized variational principles of linear thermopiezoelectricity, ASME J. Appl. Mech. 68, No. 4, 666–667 (2001)]
