The period of oscillations in nonlinear systems. (English) Zbl 1097.34528
A new approach for the determination of the period of oscillations in general nonlinear systems is proposed. The method is based on determination of the length of the orbit in a generalized phase space and its relations to the time variable. Since these quantities always exist for an arbitrary oscillating system, this approach is not restricted to systems with special properties, for instance to Hamiltonian systems. Several examples are investigated.
