Trivial constraint variational problem. (English) Zbl 1114.70015
Čadek, Martin (ed.), The proceedings of the 25th winter school “Geometry and physics”, Srní, Czech Republic, January 15–22, 2006. Palermo: Circolo Matemático di Palermo. Supplemento ai Rendiconti del Circolo Matemático di Palermo. Serie II 79, 67-74 (2006).
Summary: We study trivial constraint Cartan forms arising from the variational theory of mechanical systems with nonholonomic constraints proposed recently by O. Krupková and J. Musilová [Rep. Math. Phys. 55, No. 2, 211–220 (2005; Zbl 1134.37356)]. After remarks indicating obstructions in solving trivial constraint variational problem in general, we discuss some special but not trivial situations.
