The authors provide necessary conditions for the existence of irreducible polynomials of degree \(n\) and weight \(n\) over \(\mathbb F_2\). In particular, they revisit a result due to A. Bluher concerning the irreducibility of a certain set of polynomials, and provide a simpler proof than the original by employing Newton’s identity.
