From the paper: We analyze only pairs of interdependent genes. Such genes are called overlapping and were first discovered a quarter of a century ago. They were first experimentally detected in the case of the coding of two nonhomologous proteins whose genes were written with a shift by one nucleotide. All possible cases of overlapping pairs of genes have now been established. There are only five such cases, two of which occur only in a single strand of DNA and the other three in both strands of DNA. In a theorem we establish all possibilities for the formation of the complete set of overlappings generated by the code structure in each of the five cases.
