From the introduction: The present paper has an expository and survey character, however it contains several new results (Lemma 2.1, Proposition 2.7, Proposition 3.5) which generalize and simplify older concepts. The first section, which introduces the central notions and their basic properties, is followed by an exposition of functorial properties of classes of dually slender modules and their consequences. The last part is devoted to a description of the structure of classes of dually slender modules over particular types of rings. The results cited in the paper are mostly published in [J. Žemlička, J.
