Summary: Homogenization deals with the problem of approximating solutions of differential equations with rapidly oscillating coefficients by solutions of similar equations with constant coefficients. Behavior of many physical systems are described by differential equations. Substances, such as composite materials are often put together by arranging different materials. Sometimes the arrangements are periodic as in crystals but can often be random as in amorphous materials.
