Weakly contractive maps and common fixed points. (English) Zbl 1199.54204

Existence of coincidence points and common fixed points for self-mappings on a metric space which are weakly compatible and satisfy a weak contractive condition is proved. An application to the convergence of the modified Mann iterative scheme to a common fixed point of two mappings on a convex metric space is given.
