A Hamiltonian approach for a plasma physics problem. (English) Zbl 1219.82034

Summary: A Hamiltonian approach is applied to a plasma physics problem. A conservative oscillator admits a Hamiltonian invariant, which can be used to determine the approximate solution. The solution procedure is of deceptive simplicity and the insightful solutions obtained are of high accuracy.
